Stop them taking your bike for a ride.

Each year over 150,000 bicycles are stolen, and many are never recovered.

By taking a few simple steps, you may prevent yours from being the next.

  • Do not leave your bicycle in isolated places or unattended.
  • Park your bicycle safely.  Do not cause obstructions to others – particularly on footpaths.
  • Always lock your bicycle when you leave it, even if its only for a few minutes while you pop into a shop.
  • Always use proper bicycle anchors or robust street furniture e.g railings for securing your bicycle whenever possible.
  • Lock your bicycle through the frame.
  • Lock the wheels and other detachable parts.
  • Remove smaller parts which cannot be secured and take them with you when you can, especially lights and quick release saddles.
  • Property marking can act as a deterrent to theft.  To be effective it must be clearly visible, be securely fixed, and give information.  This will assist Police return it to you if it is stolen and subsequently recovered.
